Headaches? Forget The Coke + Fries — This Is What Actually Works!
Category:
The McMigraine Hack is going viral, but does Coke + Fries really fix headaches? Today we’ll learn why it works short-term, why it can backfire, and discover 6 proven ways to stop headaches naturally.

You ever get one of those headaches where it just kinda sneaks up on you? Maybe behind your eyes, in your temples, and next thing you know, you’re Googling: “why do I have a headache” just like millions of others are doing this week.

It’s true, you’re not alone in this, and right now there’s this thing going viral all over TikTok called the “McMigraine Hack.” The idea is you go grab a Coke and some fries and BOOM!!! No more headache!!Sounds kinda great, right? Salt, sugar, caffeine … talk about comfort in a cup and a paper bag! Just to be clear, this “McMigraine Hack” is a viral trend started by users, not something McDonald’s is officially promoting as I myself first suspected.

So What’s really going on with that McHack?
Well, the caffeine in the Coke? Like headache medications, it can temporarily constrict blood vessels, so it helps short-term. The salt and carbs? They might help a little because the carbs give your blood sugar a quick spike, which can temporarily ease a low blood sugar headache, and the salt helps you hold on to fluids, which can help if dehydration was part of the cause but it is a short-term patch, not a real fix.

We can’t forget that there’s the whole feel-good comfort food placebo effect too, that’s real, BUT … and this is important, that’s just a band-aid. It’s not a fix. If anything, you could end up chasing a rebound headache later, and a sugar crash is the last thing you need when your head’s already pounding.

So let’s talk about what actually helps.
First off, hydrate.
Here’s the trick nobody tells you, plain water isn’t always enough. If your electrolytes are off, you can drink all the water you want and still feel like garbage. So try adding a pinch of Celtic sea salt, a splash of natural electrolyte drops, or even a clean electrolyte mix like the Hydrate formula I use. It helps your body actually absorb that water and you’ll feel the difference.

Secondly, balance your blood sugar.
A lot of headaches happen because your blood sugar tanks. Skip a meal, eat junk, and boom! Here comes that dull throb again. It helps to eat some protein, get in some healthy fats, a little fiber, and keep your blood sugar stable as best you can and you’ll cut a lot of headaches off right at the ankles just by doing this.

Third is a big one: Magnesium.
Nobody talks about this enough and I wish gthey did! Magnesium deficiency is a HUGE factor in tension headaches and migraines. One of the best forms for supporting the nervous system that helps prevent headaches is magnesium pidolate which is a little harder to find, but even well-absorbed forms like magnesium citrate or malate, the kinds you’ll find in many quality supplements can make a real difference and if you can’t do that, eat magnesium rich foods.

Fourth is good old fashioned sleep.
Even a one-hour shift in your bedtime can trigger headaches, so although this can be hard at times, try to keep your sleep consistent as best you cansame time to bed, same time up, even on weekends. Trust me on this one, it really does make a big difference.

Fifth is something you may not have heard of: Stress resets.
We sit too much, we hold tension in our neck and shoulders, and then we wonder why our head’s pounding. Every hour, make it a habit to roll your shoulders, stretch your neck and just move a little. I know it sounds simple and mundane, but it works.

One more you probably haven’t heard of either: Low-carb days.
Even just one low-carb day a week can stabilize your brain’s energy pathways and help reduce headache frequency. A low-carb day can help stabilize brain energy and reduce headaches by encouraging the body to use ketones instead of glucose for fuel.

This shift provides more sustained energy, preventing blood sugar spikes and crashes that often trigger headaches AND … it also reduces inflammation and helps balance electrolytes, both of which contribute to better brain function and headache prevention. No, you don’t have to go full-on keto, just give your body a little metabolic break now and then.
One quick warning I do want to throw in:
Don’t lean on those over-the-counter pain meds too often. Anything more than twice a week and you could start causing rebound headaches, and if you lean on them long-term, they can quietly harm your kidneys or liver, something that most people are never told. I see this all the time, it’s sneaky but very real and silently dangerous.

This is the wellness educator in me speaking up now, and because I help people going through cancer as well as those who are rebuilding afterwards, where keeping strength and protecting the body is everything, I’ve seen first-hand how easily these meds can quietly take a toll.
Bottom line:
If you take one thing away from this I hope it’s this: The Coke and fries hack might give you a quick lift, but it’s not a real strategy. Real hydration, real fuel, magnesium, sleep, stress resets … that’s how you actually get ahead of this. Shortcuts might mask the issue, but the only way to truly feel better is to give your body what it actually needs.
